Field Schools

Archaeological, ethnographic, or biological anthropology field schools are offered through various universities and educational institutions. Students interested in fulfilling the field methods requirement for the Anthropology major at UC Merced with a field school can find information about such courses online, including at the following websites:

Information on scholarships to help pay for field schools can be found here: Institute for Field Research Field School Scholarship list

Students should consult with a SSHA academic advisor before enrolling in any field school to ensure that the course will satisfy a requirement for the Anthropology major or minor at UC Merced.  The field methods requirement can also be satisfied by courses offered at UC Merced during the regular school year.

NOTE: Valley fever (coccidioidomycosis) -- a serious disease affecting the respiratory system -- is endemic to much of California's Central Valley and areas of the U.S. Southwest.  If you are considering attending an archaeological field school at a site in these areas, please discuss the health risks with the field school director.
